For our first study tour in NYC we visited the magical store Mood Fabrics. Located on 37th street between 7th and 8th avenue, it is most famously known for being the fabric store that designers go to on the show Project Runway. Though I have been there multiple times, I always learn something new and see something new as well!
This time around I learned about where Mood sources their fabric. What’s neat is that most of their stock is from the leftover or unused fabrics that designer brands do not use. In fact, one of my professors who has worked at Marc Jacobs for many years, says that they often will see contestants pick a bolt and think “I know that fabric, it was going to be used in x season for Marc Jacobs.” While I do think that it’s not a model of complete sustainability, it is better than the alternative!
Anyhow, I am excited to utilize this resource while I am in NY and will be back for swatches in the future. In the meantime, I hope you enjoy pics of these absolute models (@Olive and @Dasia)!
